Suppose there were two men, let's call them Al and Bob. Al works hard. He spends his money carefully. He saves and invests. In the long run, this pays off and he lives well. Meanwhile Bob is lazy and irresponsible. He wastes the little money that he has. He never saves but is quick to spend on any passing whim. In the long run, he is poor.
The conservative looks at these two men and asks, "How can we encourage Bob to be more like Al?" The liberal looks at these two men and asks, "How much of Al's wealth should be taken away from him and given to Bob?"
