Not long ago I set out to buy a new dishwasher. At one appliance store they had a sign over one model that said in big letters: "On sale: $299.97". In smaller print underneath it said "Regular price: $299.99".
Wow! Two cents off on a three hundred dollar item! I guess the idea was to make me rush to buy it today before the price went back up.
Funny thing: a few months later that store went out of business.
